TESOL Certificate Program:

Programs in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) are designed to prepare teachers, and curriculum developers in English as a second language at all levels for teens and adults. Our programs are field-based, theory and experience based and are specialized on communicative methods of second language acquisition while incorporating collaboration with colleagues, students, and  affiliated colleges both in-campus or online.

We prepare professionals with a firm foundation in language, literacy, and applied linguistics along with an understanding of a range of second language teaching approaches that can be adjusted to suit the needs of different learner populations from diverse educational and ethnic backgrounds. TESOL Certificate program is designed to certify teachers Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. However here at UAMU there are similar programs in TFSOL, TSSOL, TASOL, TCSOL, TJSOL, TKSOL, TRSOL & TISOL respectfully to teach French, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Russian and Italian to Speakers of Other Languages.

TEC Certificate Program: (Teaching English to Children)

Children between four and twelve years old are very different as language learners. In TEC we are looking how children learn at different stages of development and how activities in the classroom need to address their cognitive, motor, language and social development.  The age groups will be grouped as: 4 to 6 year-olds   7 to 9 year-olds   10 to 12 year-olds. Obviously children do not all fit neatly into categories and their development will depend on their personality, maturity and previous learning experiences. 

This program is 34 credits and is available in Teaching English to Children TEC,  Teaching French o Children TFC, Teaching Spanish to Children TSC, Teaching Chinese to Children TCC and Teaching Arabic to Children TAC.

Bachelor of Education in TESOL, TFSOL, TSSOL or TASOL 

This is a two years program in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) or any other field selected from the above list designed to prepare teachers, curriculum developers, and class organizers at all levels for teens and adults. Our programs are field-based, theory and experience based and are specialized on communicative methods of second language acquisition while incorporating collaboration with colleagues, students, and  affiliated colleges both in-campus or online. Students become familiar with all existing methods but CLT will be the main concentration.

Mature Students Degree Completion program can also be associate to the Bachelor programs to provide a bridge in successful completion of their Bachelors. All applicable transcripts for  credits taken in other institutions  shall be forwarded to admission office for assessing possibility of admissions into Mature Student Program.

Post-Graduate Diploma Program in TESOL

The Post-Graduate Diploma Program is designed for students who are interested in teaching English abroad or choosing a second career in teaching English as a second/foreign language. This can be a bridge to the Master’s in TESOL. This 34-credit program can also serve as a bridge between Bachelors and Master study.

Post Graduate Diploma Program is also available in TFSOL, TSSOL, TASOL & TCSOL.

Master of Education in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages), M.Ed

The master’s degree programs prepare teachers and students to choose between a 34 credit program designed for teaching college students, adults, and TESOL in an international setting (Without certification for public schools), and a 44 credit program for K-12 teaching in the United States which can lead to Adults Teaching Certification (With Certification for public schools).

Bilingual Master of Education : TESOL plus TFSOL, TSSOL, TCSOL, TJSOL, TISOL or TASOL

This Bilingual Certification program enables students to learn to teach English as a second language (TESOL) in addition to teach Spanish (TSSOL), French (TFSOL), Italian (TISOL), Japanese (TJSOL), Chinese (TCSOL) or Arabic (TASOL) as a foreign language.

Bilingual program may apply to teach English plus one other foreign language listed above (TESOL plus any other), or to teach French plus one other language listed above (TFSOL plus any other).

The program of study integrates second/foreign language pedagogy, linguistics, cross-cultural studies, conversation classes, grammar classes, methodologies, practicum and second language acquisition research.

Doctoral Studies : PhD in TESOL,  TFSOL, TSSOL  or TASOL

The doctoral programs in TESOL, TFSOL, TSSOL or TASOL emphasize on research in second language acquisition and pedagogy in linguistically and socially diverse environments and communities. Courses focus on issues of acquisition and use of language as a second or foreign language including pedagogy and research, intercultural communication, alternative research methodologies, and educational foundations. Major part of this program is dedicated in developing research based online teaching methodologies and e-learning platforms utilization in language acquisitions.
